Intermittent drain problem

So, our kitchen sink randomly drains slowly. Really slowly. Sometimes it's totally fine, then all of a sudden it goes slowly for a while. You hear gurgling of air pockets sometimes when this is happening. All of the other drains in the house are totally fine.

Last winter it was going on for about a week. I pulled the 'cap' off the P trap and used one of those hand held snakes (I think it's one of those 25' ones) and got the entire thing in there. Didn't come across any obstructions or pull any gunk out.

Eventually in frustration I used some of the chemical drain cleaners which either appeared to work, or the randomness kicked in and the problem stopped.

The kitchen sink is at the front of the house, thus the first drain that would go to the sewer system if that matters. The stack is near the back of the house residing near the bathroom plumbing. Not sure if that matters either.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Post a photo of the under sink plumbing. I also suggest you start using Bioclean on that drain. It eats the grease and gunk buildup. Best to start before it blocks. I use it myself on all my drains and have never been blocked. My house is 22 years old. A container on amazon is a bit expensive but it should last you a year or more.

Thanks Ghost. Not sure if I can get that stuff up here in Canada, but I'll check. I just found it weird that the snake didn't encounter anything. I wonder if it could be something in between the P trap and the sink itself. Only thing I could think of would be a knife or something that could maybe have fallen through the little holes?

I'll try and get a pic of the plumbing later on today. There's so much junk under there it's always an ordeal to deal with when you need to.

That's why I wanted to see how your sink was connected. You may also be having a venting issue. You may have to post a few times so the forumn will allow an image post.
