![]() Installing GatorBite Ball Valve on copper pipes
DO YOU REMOVE THE BLACK PLASTIC PIECE ON EACH END TO USE WITH COPPER PIPE????
I've spent hours looking for this answer. The product may be great but the instructions are the worst ever. Also packaging shows www.elkhartproducts.com but none of the item numbers, names or descriptions are available on their site. I found a Lowes video at ehow that has no pictures but states to remove the plastic liner inside the pipe by 'firmly grasping with needle nose pliers'. When I do this it just chips. What none of the sites (external or lowes or forums here) address is there are TWO PLASTIC INSERTS on these products. A white plastic insert loose in the package and black plastic lining the sockets. These pieces are incredibly expensive and supposedly easy to use to come with such incomplete information/directions. The sales person told me not to use the white pieces on copper but did not mention the black plastic pieces. The picture on back of package is for a different item completely and does not show either insert as being added to the value or being removed from it. |

I've never removed the inside piece. The white piece would be if your using plastic piping to keep the inside from compressing.

Thank you - I should have started here.
Have you ever installed on copper with the outside area of black plastic liner chipped? (the inside is intact but it chipped where i pulled with the pliers) |
