I don't rcall exactly... but they may make a compression to pex conversion ... but for $ 6 bucks, I would go with sharkbite for both convvenence and less possibility of error.

Maybe your buddy has a torch so you could sweat on a pex adapter?

You'll do fine and surprize yourself how easy it is... especially considering you have studied it.

Protect combustables, use mapp gas (propane is not as hot and can be difficult for first time), clean it, dope it, heat it evenly all around thinking how heat travels up from the blue tip, and the solder will flow right into the joint as soon as it is hot enough,,,,

I would sweat it also (old timer) but I use sharkbites when convenient or difficult with a torch... I feel pretty confident in them now that they've been around awhile.

Good going

Use flux on the solder joint not dope.

RJ..... OOPS..... Thanks for catching .... I shouldn't use regional slang with someone just learning.

Ryger.... Hope my slang reference for flux did not confuse.

You are on the right track. I learned to sweat a few days ago, only messed up the first one or two practice fittings and I am far from the skilled plumber. It's also really comforting to have that skill, especially if you own an older home.

Re: How to connect Pex tubing to copper?

Relate sort of a funny story... When I was pretty young, I was helping a neighbor friend with some manual labor around his remodel (clean up and go-for).... and he was starting to do some copper plumbing...

He was trying to figure out the order of his plumbing run/assembly to "be sure the solder would sweat and flow down into the joint". (Think about it... pretty darn or impossible assembly)

I did not know any better, and we tried to figure it out for quite a while and then quit.

The next weekend he had talked with a plumber, and explained to me (and showed me) how to sweat and that solder just sucks right up into the joint.

Best
