Does this water heater look like it is installed correctly? I dont see a vent hood on it. Not sure if this layout is normal? I know nothing about these things. Thanks

The details you show here look correct enough.

Thanks. I don’t see a traditional vent hood on newer units that’s why I asked. How can I tell if it’s venting properly ?

If you mean draft hood, your picture directly centers on it. It like fine from the picture.

Cheers!

Not sure about the galvanized to copper connections on the water supply

Why what could go wrong with that?

Nowadays you wouldn't want to mix metals like that. Back in the day it was fairly common.

Iron rusts very quickly. The galvanizing on it protects it for a while, but eventually it rusts too. The zinc becomes like an anode and protects everything else, until it's gone from inside. Today's products aren't as strong as things used to be.

Cheers!

It's easy to check the venting. Run some hot water till wh kicks on.

You could do some low tech checks like cupping your hand sideways around hood without touching pipe, you should not feel any pushing of air coming from hood.

You could also do the match or lighter test. The airflow should draw the flame into the hood. If it sputters or goes out you could have a blockage, vent pipe not high enough or down draft/back draft issue.

Finally, make sure a carbon monoxide detector is installed on every level of the house including basement if you have one. Also install one in your utility room if that is where your wh and furnace are.
