Hot water heater upgrade

Hello all,

I'm planning on putting a full bathroom in my basement.
With the current hot water heater setup we have (see picture attached), we already experience a lack of hot water if someone is taking a shower and the dishwasher/washing machine is running.
I'm wondering what my options are for upgrading our hot water heater setup so that the problem doesn't increase with the added shower in the basement.
The hot water heater is heated by an oil burner and I really don't want to revert to an electrical hot water heater.
I also want to steer clear of tankless hot water heaters because of the large amount of electricity they consume, but I would certainly consider putting in a single point-of-use tankless heater for the shower if that was my only option.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!
JC

Re: Hot water heater upgrade

Install a larger heater.
Install a second heater and add another zone to the boiler.

Will a larger heater solve the problem? I think the main reason we run out of hot water is cycling loss, when the heater starts to refill with cold water.

I think he means a larger HW tank. In your case, calling it a "heater" is incorrect because it is literally just storing water.

Yes I meant a larger tank or second tank on new zone of the boiler. I don't know why I wrote heater.
