Hole around shower drain

First time poster here, so please help if you can.

I am attempting to do my own walk in shower, I tore out the prefab shower stall and ran into this: well I guess it wont let me post attachments so I will tell you. Its probably a 10"x10" frame inside the concrete slab, around the shower drain. this is where I need help.

A buddy said that I should get a 4" pvc pipe to place around the drain, fill the outside with quickcrete, and the inside of the pvc with p rock.

Suggestions and would that work?

If the drain body is from a fiberglass unit, it will need to be changed to one that excepts a shower liner- assuming you are doing a tile base.

You should be able to upload an image- but not a link

Scroll down below the Reply to thread box and you'll see Additional Options-
Select the Manage Attachments button. This will prompt you to search your hard drive and upload an image.
You need to be in the Advanced Reply mode to do this- not quick reply- use the brown Post Reply button at the lower left

The kerdi system is different but the entire shower floor needs to be sloped to the drain before you install the Kerdi membrane. Your Kerdy drain should be the low point. So install it then fill the entire hole as you make the slope let dry then apply the membrane.

same as what your using on the floor Quick crete.
