Help with T&P discharge lone

My mother-in-law has to get a new water heater and she bought one at Home Depot. The Home Depot contracted installers showed up and refused to do the new installation because she did not have a T&P line on her existing setup.and then told her they wanted to charge her a ridiculous amount of money to install one. She was confused and did not want to be ripped off so she sent them away.

I told her I would install one for her to save $$ so she can just call the heater installers back and they will have something to tie into.I tried to call local code office in Fayetteville Georgia but nobody will return my call. I know typically the lines are around 3/4 inch and most of the ones I've seen are copper.

She bought a Rheem 80 gallon gas heated tank. I'm going to stop in at Home Depot and verify the valve size. Does anyone know if copper is a requirement? I told her it would be much cheaper with CPVC but I don't know if that's allowed. I'm planning to run it outside down the exterior wall and stop about 6 inches above the ground

I have a better idea, buy the tank and install it your self. The T&P is 3/4 inch you can run it in CPVC.

Well

I've never done gas pipes before and they kind of make me nervous. Otherwise I would totally do it

Then do what I did. Install the thing, then pay someone just to hook up the gas line.

That's a good idea. Might try it. Can I get another verification that 3/4" CPVC is acceptable?
