HELP. Kitchen DISPOSAL too low to waste line -

Help. We just had all new kitchen plumbing installed, run through the studs, and drywalled over. (Photo behind wall.). Then cabinets, deep SINGLE basin sink installed and glued, and just put new garbage disposal in. However, the connecting points between the disposal and the waste-pipe are nearly identical in height (approx 12.25-12.5”). Photo attached with measurement visible. As shown in photo- the waste pipe behind the wall does a gradual and very long slope over to the main line outside, running behind multiple cabinets, and past a 90 degree turn, so lowering the drain/waste pipe BEHIND the wall would involve a complete demo of the backs of multiple cabinets, and running new holes through multiple studs, etc... Hoping for a solution that could be configured UNDER THE SINK rather than behind the cabinets/drywall. Ideas please. I do quite a bit of cooking, so having no disposal and 1 single drain (single basin sink) will create a daily and messy inconvenience. This kept me up last night. Any ideas toward an easier solution would be greatly appreciated.

The drain into the wall needs to be below that of the disposal and sink, there's no way to beat gravity with this. As I see it, your options are to:

Raise the disposal output (with a different disposal)
Raise the sink (with a different, shallower sink, or at least a shallow drain for the disposal)
Lower the drain at the wall

The way I see it you have two options. Put a new sink in that's not quite as deep or drop the drain line. Looking at your pictures you could get almost a four inch drop by opening the back of the cabinet up behind the sink and dishwasher of the right side of the window. I know that's not exactly what you wanted to hear but that wouldn't be too bad of a job.

Re: HELP. Kitchen DISPOSAL too low to waste line -

your drain actually has too much fall for the vent location...
but you should be able to access & catch the drain at far
right of sink cabinet base; turn into base with 45`bends with
as little fall on new trap arm as possible to allow for disposer
drain to meet up with P trap... I'd recommend a studor
air admittance valve after trap since your weir height will
still be above the vent connection & possibly too far away...

Peace

Based on the framing pics and the finished product with the dishwasher location, do you think there is enough room to do that Dr. P. The box is nailed to the left side of the stud and after you go 1 1/2" to the right of the box, doesn't look like a lot of room

May have to go into DW bay & lower drain from
there also but needs to start demo somewhere...

hard to tell from camera angle but looks like a serious
drop (3-4") comparing drain & block lines from left to right...

definitely could get low enough if lowered behind DW
& then entering into right corner of cabinet base IMO.

Peace

I’m finding online that mine is an extremely common problem since the popularity of deeper, single basin sinks came along. Years now. Anyone aware of a garbage disposal with a higher discharge line? 6” (from the bottom side of the sink) seems to be the standard for disposals. Any non-standard and if so, how the heck to find it? Searching “compact garbage disposals” hasn’t worked.

I would call insinkerator and discuss options with them. That disposal you have looks like it has a very low neck that connects to the plate.

You can cut the disposal outlet 90.

Yeah, I think getting rid of that 90 won’t change that the outlet and waste line are the same height, if I’m understanding you correctly.

Use a pvc glue trap they are not as deep. A trap adapter at the disposal.

Re: HELP. Kitchen DISPOSAL too low to waste line -

I don't know if it would be deep trouble. You could always correct the issue by doing what Dr. P. recommended, but I got the impression the OP wanted to avoid cutting drywall and cabinets.

I know the OP wants a disposal and if the OP can't get a shallower disposal, the easy solution would be to do away with the disposal. Most people throw things down a disposal that should never go down the drain. IMO it is not really that big of a deal to not have a disposal. Scrape plates into the trash, rinse the dishes and done.
