Help with Gas Log Lighter Install

Hi everyone.
I have a fireplace with a natural gas stubout inside for a log lighter. I finally purchased a universal .5" lighter pipe from Lowe's. I never realized, but the stub out literally has no clearance. I can't get a 90 on to give me enough room for install of the mixer on the gas log lighter. I have called around my town and nobody understands what I'm saying. Lol I attached a picture. Please Help an amature!!! Thank you all

Re: Help with Gas Log Lighter Install

The picture isn't showing up well for me. But i see a sub with some vicegrips. Is this the part you're talking about?

If it is, you're pretty much SOL. You'll need to redo the pipe inside the wall. You might get lucky and get a screw driver under it to pry gently, but it's going to be fairly frail after all this time in the fire.

These kits don't seem so safe to me, but I'm only a professional. If this was mine, I'd want a lockable shutoff to it so that only I could turn it on. But, then again, I'd probably use a whole spark ignition, safety valve kit.

Cheers!

Darn. That's sort of what I thought

The 1/2" line with the vice grips on it is my stub out from the brick inside the firebox connected to the valve on the wall. I showed that 90 elbow as a reference to show what little clearance from the floor I have. I don't get it. How would they have built it like this? All my neighbors have the same setup, just higher. You can tell it was used before I bought the place 8 years ago. Here are some more pics just in case it helps someone help me lol.

You'll be able to get a coupling on it. You might have to go straight across and elbow back around. The longer pipe will give more flexibility.

Cheers!

Re: Help with Gas Log Lighter Install

Thanks Supers05! I managed to get a longer fitting on to give me enough slack for a 90. Worked great. Thanks for the help
