Have they lost their mind or me

Buying a house near philly, it's a ranch with exposed basement. I want to pull cast iron drains out of 2 baths and kitchen. Replace and use existing new hw heater. Full tub (drop in) in one bath then shower pan in the other. Nothing fancy and runs would be basically where they are now.

Local place quoted me 23 thousand dollars. I used to build houses years ago in Michigan and I expected this to be 5-6 grand. Am I missing something here or is this ridiculous

Re: Have they lost their mind or me

Wow, that sounds like the "We are busy with larger jobs" price. But what was in their scope?

Never go off of one quote. Get at least 3 to see what the market is.

Re: Have they lost their mind or me

That included some finish but I told them builders grade tub and I would supply kitchen sink and would tile the shower pan

I used to pay about 7 grand for a new house and that included water from the street and a hwh so I'm just really surprised.

Well, depending how close to Philly, labor rates were already high 5 years ago.

Re: Have they lost their mind or me

I'm probably gonna grab a guy off Craigslist to help and do it myself. I'm basically just re running same lines. Only main difference is I'm going to break up basement so I'm going to combine all the drains to one main point so I don't have so many lines and branch offs .

Re: Have they lost their mind or me

We are from the same neighborhood. There are many good reasonably priced local mom and pop type plumbers in the area. If you can't find one, contact me privately or find me on facebook and private message me there. I dont think i am allowed to recommend specific people on tapatalk.
