Gas Meter Outlet Tee

Right now the fuel supply side of my meter has a tee, one side of which goes into the house, and the other has a plug screwed in. Is it OK to unscrew the plug on the other side of that tee to add an additional gas line run down the exterior of my house to the the back yard? Or is one side of that tee left available for a reason, like gas company use or something?

Re: Gas Meter Outlet Tee

You could always add a nipple and another tee so the opening is still available.

Most likely it would be ok, but there is a chance that it would not be. Can you post a pic? Or, call your gas supplier and ask them.

Re: Gas Meter Outlet Tee

Just to be safe make sure you shut the gas off before messing with it. All it takes is a static discharge for ignition.

Re: Gas Meter Outlet Tee

Is the T before the meter or after?
