Found a storm drain?

Hello,

We've had some nasty rain in Chicago past few days, and we've had worst rain storms but this is the first time I've encountered a problem with water leakage. Water is coming out through the tiles in my downstairs bathroom which is next on the side of the house. Can anyone que me in to what may cause this?

Another question I have is when I was gardening this spring, I noticed that there is a storm drain/sewer drain, but it was covered by multiple covers. I recovered it and put a brick on it like how I came across it because I had no idea what it could be. I'll post a picture. It is right outside the same bathroom that had water coming from beneath the tiles(we don't have a bathtub in this bathroom), should I keep this storm/sewer drain like I found it? None of my neighbors have it that I've seen(maybe they have it covered aswell) Not sure if we should keep it open and put something in there that would keep leafs and dirt out, so the water doesn't accumlate in the soil next to my home. Please help, im a newbie home owner and I am trying to learn and do not have the funds to call a professional.

That looks like a cleanout to me.

used to run ROTO-ROOTER into when there is a blockage.

And water seeping in from the floor is a sign that you need to install a foundation drainage system, or have yours looked at.

Re: Found a storm drain?

Look up FRENCH DRAIN, installed around the perimeter.
