We have an old 3" cast-iron floor drain in our unfinished basement (house built in 1930). My wife tells me that years ago (before I lived here) there was a tremendous rain and water backed up and out of that drain (it also happened in other houses on our block). I'm thinking about installing one of those Flood Guard check valves in the drain (see attached pic).
Are these a good idea? My wife is concerned that if it actually works and prevents water from coming out of the floor drain that the water will simply find another exit, i.e. the basement toilet or utility sink.
