Ejector pump

I needed to replace the rusted out lid on my ejector pump, this pump has been in for 28 years, never had a problem. My question is the old say "if its not broke dont fix it" apply to pumps, problem is if you wait till it fails, you have a mess on your hands, excess water makes install of a new pump more difficult. I did replace the check valve. the only thing running through this pump is the discharge from the water softener. I cant believe I've had no issues for this long, I do understand older pumps were made better, in any event any thoughts?

28 years? That's amazing. I bought my house when it was brand new back in 1980. After three years the ejector pump died and I pulled out the old one (Stevens Pump Co) and replaced it with the same model. About three years later the second one died, so like a fool I replaced it once again with another Stevens Pump model. After that one died I switched to a Flotec model, which has been working ever since. Unlike yours, mine handles the water from the washing machine as well as a bathroom (including a toilet), so changing it is not one of my favorite pastimes. If I were in your shoes I think I would replace it just for peace of mind, unless money was tight.
