Cutting cast iron waste pipe

What is the best way to cut a cast iron waste pipe? We were trying to remove a broken flange from the pipe that is over 70 year old. In doing so the top rim of the pipe chipped about a 3" long by 1 " deep. I bought a PVC compression flange that is long enough to go past the chipped section of pipe but I need to cut around the pipe about an inch to even it out. A mini-hacksaw is cutting but extremely slowly.

Any advice would be appreciated?
Thank you,
Ken

I've only done it once. Angle grinder worked.

Thanks to all for the replies! While not the best we ended up using a mini hacksaw to cut down into the top of the pipe down every 1/2" to the level of the original chip and snap it off with pliers. We were able to use a compression flange to fit into the pipe and it sits level and on the tile floor and the compression adjusting ring is well below the top of the pipe..
