Coupling does not fit on old copper pipe

I bought some 1/2" coupling to repair a leak with a current copper pipe.

However, I can't fit the coupling over the pipe.

Any suggestions on fixing this?

Thanks

Is the existing pipe hard or soft copper?

Was it leaking because the old pipe split from freezing?
100% sure you used a dull cutter or used to much pressure and distorted the pipe or left a burr?

Yep.... If it's not distorted.... sand it down.

(A couple of years ago, I got some new copper that was slightly oversize... maybe some chinese machine got slightly out oif tolerance.

Neither new fittings, or old fittings , would fit this new pipe. Just sand it.. never had it happen before, never after.)
