Clean stain from vanity surface

I am updating a bathroom with a new faucet. I was finally able to remove the old (3-hole) faucet system. The new faucet fits in the single center hole. The problem is that there is a stain around the left (hot) former faucet hole. I have tried a variety of cleaning agents -- bon ami, a paste of baking soda & lemon, coke, toothpaste. Nothing has worked.

Any suggestions about how to remove a brownish (rust colored) stain around a hole in the counter on top of a vanity?

Thanks a lot!!!

We can not see what your seeing without a picture.
If it's rust I'd be using "The Works".
Any dollar store should have it.

CLR or Lime Away are good for rust as well, as long as the surface is safe for them to be used.

You should try to find a deck plate that fits your faucet, or use a 3 hole faucet. Unless you have some other plan for covering up those holes. Apart from the looks, you're risking getting splashed or spilled water running down into your vanity.
