Check Balve on Sump Pump

I have a sump pump with a silent check valve. Despite this there is still a loud thud/knocking noise every time it goes in. I've tried replacing the valve and also drilled a small hole in the line by the pump to release air. Still hasn't helped. The rise is about 10 ft from pit bottom to horizontal line in ceiling. Any suggestions? The check valve is located about 4 ft above the floor so about 6 ft or so from pump.

Re: Check Balve on Sump Pump

You might be just getting a hammer noise from the piping flexing. By the sounds of your post, you have 10' of (probably) ABS pipe with a pump essentially hung on the end. If yours is like most installs, that pipe is likely unsecured for its whole run and will flex when the pump shuts off and the valve closes.

Re: Check Balve on Sump Pump

That probably sounds about right. I did secure the pipe with brackets within the sump closet, but probably wasn't in the ceiling. Good thing is I can access the line in the ceiling which is in between my upper and lower levels that has no insulation to deal with. Thanks
