Changing moen positemp cartridge without turning water off

Hi

Is it possible to change the moen positemp cartridge without turning the water off?

I have a one handle two function faucet. (no pulling)

https://www.homedepot.com/p/MOEN-Ali...91BL/301977532

Would worst case scenario be wet feet? Because I can wear shorts and no socks. Much easier than having to go into another unit of a duplex and shutting off the water.

Thanks!

Not going to happen.
I'd spend some time figuring out if there was another shut off some place.
It just would make not make since they did not allow for this when building this unless this was a condo conversion.
Your going to have at least 40 PSI of pressure blowing out of that wall.

Ok thanks for letting me know. It's just a duplex. Water meters in the basement and this is the upper unit. Don't think there's another shut off upstairs but will check.

I have the tenant moving out and the shower cartridge is installed upside down. Person I bought the house from owns/operates mechanical piping and Hvac construction company.
They must do amazing work.

When looking in the hole where the valve is, do you see two large flat head screws? If so, you can turn them across the pipe and shut off the water to the valve. If you don't have them, then road trip time.

Yep! I just read about that before posting. Not sure if i have those. Many thanks for the info. If it resorted to having to adjust those, I probably won't do the job. I'm a newbie and it would get to that point of should i attempt to fix something that's not broken (only a nuisance) and risk breaking something else. Because that's the way she's been going lately

instead of pulling the handle up you push it down and go the other way. lazy idiot installed it. he would have probably turned the handle once he finished and realized it was wrong.

Re: Changing moen positemp cartridge without turning water off

There's no adjusting, just turn the screw head vertical and it turns off the water to the control valve. When you are through, turn them horizontally and it will turn the water back on.

To further Harold's comment which I missed on your second post. The cartridge is in upside down? Sometimes it is necessary to correct backwards piping. Does it not work properly....ie. cold to hot?

yes it works properly.. just have to turn the handle clockwise. two sets of tenants now never cared. tenants don't care about a lot of things.

If valve is installed upside down that won't work. You will have to remove the valve and reinstall it correctly.

Notice the UP encircled.
