Re: Can this valve be repaired?

Stroud get an MRI that sounds like you had a small stroke. My wife suffered the same but was damaged worse. She lost speech and right arm.

Yes, did all that. Sorry about your wife. Mine has also had a stroke and numerous TIAs. Had a second one day after Christmas. Has recovered nicely, no lingering effects.

They still exist but they are certainly in the minority now.

Not a doctor - heck, not even a decent DIYer, - but I'd be getting that condition looked at. Sounds like a TIA (transient ischemic attack) or something similar.
I could not agree more with LENAITCH about HD employees.

And HK , I could not agree more with LENAITCH and wish you the very best buddy.

Re: Can this valve be repaired?

Sorry to hear about your troubles, hkstroud. Getting old has its pros and cons, without doubt.

Apologies to all for the delayed return. Life seems to move faster and faster these days.

Just wanted to say thanks for the input. The additional tightening did the trick. I haven't picked up any of the suggested Graphite but do intend to, since it could be handy at one time or another.

Again, thanks.
