Can I empty and reuse water expansion tank?

My momís water expansion tank is full to the brim. Iím currently emptying it out.

Can I just empty and reuse that tank? Iíll bring it back to system pressure.

Or do i need to buy a new one?

Those are throw aways jake, imo.

Once filled with water, they have failed. Bladder is shot. It would just eventually fill with water again. Best to buy new one as you suggested.

It looks like it's for a boiler. Recommended charge is around 12-15 psi.

If it's for a water heater psi should be set at incoming water pressure, around 50-55 psi most homes.

Check and verify xpansion pressure before installation. I know it says precharged, but sometimes they sit for awhile on the shelf and are not accurate. Just a suggestion.

Hope you get it up and running for her soon.

I would start by pumping up and see what happens. It could be the scheader valve is just leaky. If the bladder is gone replace it.

Expansion tanks with bladders or diaphagms are shot if gobs of water come out the Schrader valve, or after pouring "all" the water out the pipe connection, shaking the tank gives off water sloshing noises..
