Bathtub faucet cartridge has broken into half

Hi,

I was trying to fix leaky faucet by changing its cartridge. Unfortunately an hour worth of project has became couple hours of nightmare.

I have looked at youtube but nobody has covered this scenario. The cartridge (Moen 1222) has broken right in the middle. I tried to create some leverage with a nose plier; the cartridge has started revolving but this damn thing is not coming out. Any suggestion will be helpful. I will put some pictures for reference purpose.

Thanks,
Sandeep

Drill 2 holes and drive a couple of screws in them to pull with 2 Pliers . Lube the new one good for the next DIY plumber.

A couple of important steps were omitted in the video but I realize they were to make their product beautiful. That's what sells.

Now for the real world.

First step - place an old towel or suitable restrainer over the drain.

Lube the valve body cylinder and O rings before installation.

Moen 1222 is a simple replacement for a plumber and often for DIYers too. Unfortunately you evidently followed some of the overwhelmingly bad advise posted on YouTube. Anybody can post videos whether they know what they are doing or not. At this point you have created a bad situation. Your problem can most likely be fixed. Many plumbers even recommend replacing the entire faucet at this point because they do not know how to remove the remaining portion of the cartridge. I recommend calling a plumber and getting their advise.

Thank you for your suggestions and replies. After unsuccessful efforts late last night; I woke up this morning and tried again. This time the cartridge was revolving easier. As suggested I drilled to create more leverage and wala the magic happened!

Dripdy drop has stopped now!

Thanks again-

Regards,
Sandeep
