Air admittance valve in island

Hi all,
I'm trying to get unconfused about using an AAV for a kitchen sink in an island. Local code seems to quote the IPC. But that section is confusing to me.

If I use an AAV at the sink, what is the requirement for the vertical placement of the valve?

Does there still have to be an actual vent stack pipe associated with this fixture someplace?

Does anyone have a good graphic showing an example of what meets the code?

Thanks very much.

I can't tell you IPC code, but you are pretty safe if you use a AAV that is listed with IPC, ICC or UPC.
There are 5 variants of the UPC within 50 miles of my house so I usually call my inspector with any questions such as yours.

Follow the manufacturers directions too and leave those instructions for the inspector to review.

Re: Air admittance valve in island

Call your local plumbing inspector. Some areas have decided to use the AAV manufactures engineering documentation and enforce a vent on the local branch to relieve positive air pressure. Manufacture documentation can overrule the code.
