Access Panel Needed?

To change over a 1970's 3-knob shower fitting to a single handle fitting, would access from the backside of the wall be needed, or can all the work be done from the tub side. I'm working in the room on the backside of the tub and was thinking I'd add an access panel now if needed. It won't be very easy later on.

Re: Access Panel Needed?

If the wall is gutted in the bathroom all the work can be done from that side.

Re: Access Panel Needed?

Having access from the rear is always a plus. Replacement of valve or maintenance.
