Self leveler and flooring in basement

I am finishing a bathroom in our basement. The concrete floor is not level and I have to raise the one side about 3/8 in. I was going to use a self leveler, however the side that it is low has an expansion joint cut right through the middle of the area that I have to raise. All of the self levelers that I have seen say not to go over expansion joints. I am going to lay Dura-Ceramic for flooring. What should I do about the expansion joint. The floor is a small area only about 35 sq ft.

Caulk or patch the expansion joint within the area you intend to level, then use the self leveling compound.
