Removing vinyl baseboard wall adhesive

I'm not sure when this vinyl wallboard was installed, but I'm about to lay some carpet tiles over this hallway floor and I've removed the vinyl baseboard. I could paint the vinylboard (its brown, I need white) and replace it after I've laid the carpet tiles, but I think I prefer a cleaner look and just have no baseboard. I'll just cut the carpet tiles to snug against the concrete wall.

I need to remove this brown adhesive. Any ideas on what will do it?

Looks like it was glued on before the wall was painted. That means you will never get all off but you can make it flat. Scraping is the tried and true way. Chemicals if they will dissolve it will just smear and expand the mess.

This is a great excuse to buy a multi-function tool and a pack of the scraper blades to fit it. Said tool will make much shorter work of it than hand scraping and a lot less cussing.

It's called an oscillating saw.
Even a cheap Harbor Freight one will work.

One of the handiest tools I own, it will do jobs no other tool can do so It's not going to go to waste when you done this job.
I use it all the time to cut outlet holes in sheetrock.
Have also used it when trying to cut out a section of hardwood flooring to make a repair.

Re: Removing vinyl baseboard wall adhesive

Thanks, I have an oscillating saw/multitool and use it often. I tried on this epoxy with mixed results. The dried up residue it took care of fine, the gummy stuff, not so much. After spending some time working on it, I think I'm just going to replace the old vinyl base moulding with new.

Worth a try..

Using brown paper bags or like it.
Using a hot iron.

Place the bag over the glue,
Rub the iron over the bag to melt the glue to the bag.
