Removing tape residue from hardwood floors

Iíve got some tape residue on my floors. I piece of cardboard I used for floor protection had foam tape on it.

Is there some diy residue remover.

Iíve got mineral spirits, vinegar, and other household cleaner.

I donít want to buy a bottle of goo gone for 2-3 spots.

Thanks

A solvent is going to be needed. If mineral spirits doesn't work, does your wife have any nail polish remover aka acetone? Otherwise, buy some goof off.

Re: Removing tape residue from hardwood floors

Don't use Goo-Gone, Goo-Gone is a cocktail of various solvents used to remove labels from glass or metal surfaces, I would never use it on anything painted or polyurethaned. I would try the Mineral Spirits, that sounds the same as Paint Thinner. Failing that I would try Naphtha from a home center. If you try lacquer thinner or acetone, test if first in a closet or under an appliance.

Being I've gotten WD-40 on gun stocks with various unknown and known finishes for lots of years without repercussions when cleaning, I'd reach for my 0000 steel wool and a couple drops of WD-40.

The paint thinner got it right out. Thanks.

Another question, Iíve got a general dusty haze over my hardwood floors after vacuuming.

Iím going to clean it with a bonas wood floor mop. Is there a better way to get the dust off without damaging the floors?

Re: Removing tape residue from hardwood floors

Is this dusty haze leftover from sanding? Generally a damp mop works well. You don't want to flood the wood, just have enough moisture to grab the dust. Doing it that way won't hurt the wood.

Jake - I recall your posts from the get-go as you renovate your condo/apartment (possibly without approval, but whatever). If you kept 'before' photos, you should post a project summary when you are done to show us your handiwork.
