Removed carpet - quick questions

The previous owner had carpet for what I am assuming since at least 1972. Luckily, there is beautiful hardwood floors underneath. I do have a couple questions, though. As part of the refinishing, I need to know what wood this is:

Oak? Also, what is the best way to transition that particular threshold? It's a pretty big difference. Would a basic reducer work? Thanks!

Looks like something that needs to be custom made, pretty simple if you have a router mounted in a table, i make all mine as what they have in the store is way over priced.

It's about 7/8".

Re: Removed carpet - quick questions

How about a transition strip that just covers the edge of the tile and ramps down to the hardwood at a 15 degree angle. The thickness of the edges should be 1/4". Start out with a piece that is 1 1/8" thick, 3 1/2+" wide, and as long as the doorway(?) opening. This would best be done on a router table.

Re: Removed carpet - quick questions

Looks like oak from here, but need a closeup to tell.

I've made 'ramp' transitions from pieces of hardwood flooring by cutting the 3/4" by whatever into a ramp using angle cuts on a table saw. Works better though when the transition is parallel to the hardwood strips. In your case it would have to sit on top.
