We are currently updating the inside of our home we purchased in 2010. The kitchen, dining room, entry way, half bath, and hallway leading to the laundry room have wood flooring which was installed when the home was built in 1996. The "style" at the time were wood floors that showed spacing between the boards (see photo). The kitchen floors show the most wear obviously, but the other areas could use work as well. We plan on installing wood flooring in the family room as well as the hallway leading to the bedrooms (currently have old worn Berber). My dilemma is to either try and have the wood floors refinished to have them "match", as closely as possible, the flooring we will install in the family room, or just replace all the wood floors with new. Since the current wood floors have the look of spacing between the boards, I'm wondering if the sanding during refinishing would "reduce" that look? Also, we don't plan on staying in this home beyond another 3 or 4 years so that may be a deciding factor. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.
