rebar supported flooring

I was remodeling my fireplace by first remove some bricks/masonry from the front piece that was on the floor. As I continued to remove the bricks, downward, I noticed that the weight of that front piece was support by rebars which were support by three columns of brick stacks. My goal is recover more floor space so I wanted to replace with regular subfloors.

Could I continue to use the bricks as flooring simply by putting a top coat of concrete to level it to the surrounding subflooring? Are the two rebars running perpendicular to the bricks sufficient to hold the flooring up? The rebars are a bout 3/4" thickness.
