I had to disconnect the carpet at a tile transition to fix a slab leak. I used a carpet kicker to take if off the tack strip. Now going the other way it will not grab. It appears the holes in the backing are elongated a little. I'm thinking I will have to either remove the existing tack strip to get the tacks new material to punch through or perhaps backup the existing tack strip with a second one. I didn't anticipate this being a problem. Is it possible to use carpet transition heat tape on the edge of the carpet to get new material for the tacks to penetrate?
What about carpet transition tape along the edge to give the tacks new material to bite into. I just looked at some tape that doesn't require heat but that probably isn't the best and would let go over time.
