I will be installing some new laminate flooring in my basement. There is currently a sleeper subfloor in a basement with existing vinyl tiles which the new floor will sit on top of it. It is an old house
I was wondering which type of underlayment is most appropriate.
I would think that any vapour retarding foam type would be a bad idea as it could trap moisture, but I am not sure if that logic holds.
There are so many differrent types, and I want to cut through the marketing and choose the best one at the best price.
which type to avoid?
which would be a good chioce?
what is a good thinkess
would i need one that is breathable with MY Setup?
finally, what is a reasonable price to pay per sqare
Laminate flooring these days could be a lot of different products. It would help if you could be more specific.
I'm not a fan of laminate in basement although some use it with no problems in dry basement.
If the tile has been there several years with no issue and you are fine with the dryness of the basement floor,I would just use 30# felt under the new floor.
I have installed many and am not a fan of the foam or bubble type under laminate floor. It gives it to much cushion and lets in move to much just from traffic.
