pre-sloping subfloor without mortar proposal

Hello!

I am doing a bathroom remodel and need a 3/4" slope from the shower edge to the trench drain along the wall.

I am considering making "wedges" from ripped 2 x 4s that would run from 1/4" at one end to 1" at the other end to make the slope. I would put about one ripped 2 x 4 piece every six inches perpendicular to the joists for support. Then I plan on laying 1/2" plywood, then waterproofing layer, then 1/4" durock, then thinset and tile.

Is it possible to do it this way so long as I have enough ripped 2 x 4 wedges to solidly support the plywood and everything else on top of it?

Thanks!

I'm hoping that's an optimistic observation!
