My house was built in the late 60's and have the original hardwood floors. They are top nailed oak strips and we don't really like the orange/yellow tint.
I think the varnish or whatever is on there contributes a lot to the colour.
On my moulding there is overspray and it's pretty yellow.
I've attached a picture.
What I want to do is to sand it down to remove the yellow tinted varnish and maybe slightly the top of the oak to take it back to a more natural colour. I think this is typically called a screen and recoat?
And then I want to have a clear varnish, with no tinting so it's a more subdued, less yellow.
My question to you guys is what product should I go with for a varnish? Is there something that I should look at over something else? I'm thinking maybe a matte finish would be preferred and would eliminate the yellow-ness.
