Need advice in regards to carpet replacement

Hey guys-new member here. My living room is carpet. I have a senior cat that's pee'd on it for years. Recently tried to clean it up but it's too far gone. I want to replace it with something non absorbing.

Not a real stylish person. Function over form. It's a 13'x13'6" square if that matters.

Thanks in advance
Travis

I would do nothing other than attempt to keep the carpet clean until the cat is no longer around.

Re: Need advice in regards to carpet replacement

Once urine is gotten into the backing and underpad, and possibly the subfloor, it is really difficult to remove. A profession carpet cleaning service that has good recommendations for pet stains might be able to get it out, and least to the point that it is not noticeable. Consumer-grade machines probably won't cut it. It's a relatively inexpensive option that might buy you a few years.
