Luxury Vinyl Plank Installation Question

I have bids from two different contractors to install LVP flooring in my house. One bid calls for the complete removal of the existing sheet vinyl in the home and the other is to skim the edges of the sheet vinyl with an ardex patch to level with subfloor and install the LVP flooring on top of the vinyl. I am not sure what the difference between each procedure beside cost.

Could anyone share any insights on these two processes, such as why either one may be preferred over the other? Is there a common best practice in this situation? The contractor that bid to install the LVP flooring over the existing vinyl told us that complete removal of the sheet vinyl is not really money well spent, but will do it if we want him to.

I am not sure what the best option is, and hope some folks can give some direction to make a decision. Thanks!

Also, if it helps the discussion:

Edge Skimming Cost: $100
Complete Removal: $425

Not a huge different in price, but don't understand what I may or may not be achieving.

Complete removal allows you to get to the structure and make sure it's right so that problems down the road are minimized.

That said, we started taking out the vinyl in our units several years ago and replacing with ceramic for about the same cost if you want to go a little higher-end.

Instructions on the LVP say it's okay to install on top of vinyl.

I know it can be done, but what are the differences vs complete removal besides a couple hundered dollars? What does one gain with complete removal of the sheet vinyl that is lost when LVP is installed over it?

I don't see any gain with complete removal, but i see a $325.00 saving without removal.
