Laminate (Pergo) Install Around Pole

Do I need to leave the required space around poles in the center of the room? or is it just around the perimeter?

If I do need to leave space, any suggestions on how to cover the gap?

Awesome, that looks great! And I'm guessing yes on leaving the space for expansion?

Yes leave a gap. .Either that or you make you own, I have done them out of 2 layers of 1x? one smaller than the other with routered edges and the then installed them with offset joins.

You might consider a bead of caulk

Thanks, was planning on putting in the foam backer rod and then caulking over it.

Cover the gap by boxing the column with 1X4. Trim the bottom with the same baseboard as around the room. Far more elegant than leaving a painted lally column. IMO.

Research Split Escutcheon. It wouldn't be as decorative as the split oak trim, but you might like the price better.

Thanks! I'm going to go with the wood trim, but that's a nice and cheap alternative.

The beams had a box made out of 1x4's around it that looked alright, but I had to take it off to get the laminate under because there was carpet installed underneath it. My plan is to paint the poles white and put the trim down for now, see how I like it. If I don't, then I'll replace the 1x4's and will have wasted a little time and thought on fitting around the poles
