Well, I'm getting towards the end of this project (finally), and just had a final question about attaching the t molding. I have the cut piece of t molding fitted, but I just want to know the best way of attaching it (I cut the jamb so it slips under one side of the door jamb). It seems like there are different opinions on how to attach it on the web.
The issue with nailing it down is that the base of the t molding doesn't rest on the subfloor, I'd say it's a half inch or so above. Should I shim the gap and nail it (and use some adhesive/silicone as well), or can I get away with just gluing it down? If you think it's worth going through the effort of nailing it down, can I use a finish nailer, or is drilling a hole and hand nailing the "safer" way to avoid splitting the wood? I was wondering if adhesive like pl premium is really necessary, or if something like just silicone would do the trick. Thoughts? You can see pictures below of the fitted t molding and pre-t molding.
Also wanted to say thanks again to everyone for all the advice and help I've received. Certainly couldn't have done this project without everyone's help.
