Engineered Flooring Staple Size

Good Day,

I'm installing Lauzon Engineered Hardwood Flooring this weekend and thought I'd though a question out there last minute.

What size staple should I use? I'll narrow the opinions down (some info may be irrelevant but here incase it's needed)
  • I'm going to rent a Bostitch MIII stapler today and the local store only has 1-1/2" 15GA and 2" 15GA staples available.
  • 1000 ft2 of board
  • Lauzon requires the installation to be staples (not cleats or nails) but says 1-1/2" and 2" would work.
  • My subfloor is 5/8 T&G spruce (43 years old) with joists 16" on center (second floor - heated basement below)
  • Underlayment (http://www.fortifiber.com/aquabar_b.html) will be used and is approved by Lauzon
  • 90+% of installation will have boards running perpendicular to joists
  • The hardwood is 3/4" thick, two ply, top ply maple, bottom ply SPF with grain perpendicular to maple top

Thanks!
Josh

It is recommended to use 2" staples for 3/4 inch hardwood, they go in at an angle of about 45 degrees, if you use the 1 1/2" ones you'll only have about 1/2 inch holding the hardwood to the subfloor.

Have fun with the project!
