cutting holes in tile

I've been reading John Bridge and it seems like porcelain tile is more prone to breaking while trying to cut a hole (like for a toilet)
what is the "correct" method for cutting such a hole in porcelain? are those "tile cutting blades" for a scroll saw of any use? should I use my angle grinder?

tnx,

I'm not sure that there is one correct way. For the non-professional I suspect a lot depends on what tools you have. I used a cheap $60.00 wet saw. I made a series of parallel cuts about 1/2 inch apart, knocked them out, and then cleaned it up a bit with some nippers. Since it will be under the toilet it doesn't matter if the edges are neat.

If you are talking about a smaller hole, use a diamond bit made for glass or tile, and water to keep the bit cool. I've been drilling a lot of glass lately and a trick I figured out was to take a washer slightly larger than the drill bit and duct tape it in place. This will keep your bit from jumping until it bites in, then you can remove the washer and finish the hole.

Angle grinder with a diamond blade is what I use.
Or if you have a tile saw that you have been using for your other cuts just make a row of cuts and snap it off.
