Creaking Floor Help - 3/4 Oak hardwoods installed over 1x8 subfloor on a bias
Our hardwood floors really have the creaks. Walking across the floor anytime, but especially in the middle of the night going to the head sounds like a band of crickets under my feet.
Our home was built in 1960 with hardwoods laid over 1x8's which are nailed to the 2x10 floor joists and with a tar paper in between.
The hallway and one side of the house is over an unfinished basement area, so I have access to the subfloor. Apart from redoing the whole floor, is there anything I can do below this area of the flooring system to help alleviate the creaking? Perhaps the application of some additional blocking or supports?
