Copper subfloor underlayment?

My NJ house was built in 65 and has a den that I believe is on a concrete foundation, as the basement does not go under it. It is carpeted now and I want to install a floating wood floor in the room. I remove both register covers to verify the subfloor and it looks like there is a sheet of copper under the carpet padding. Has anyone heard of this? I am not sure how to work with this. Thanks in advance

Highly unlikely, and I'd have to see it to believe it.
If the carpets coming out anyway remove the 1/4 round and pull the carpet back for a better look.

maybe it's foil tape, often used to air-seal the gaps between the air register and subfloor?
