ceramic tile grout sealer additive

I have finally finished laying my ceramic tile in my entry way and it is now ready for grout.

when I purchased everything i needed for this product, I was recommended to buy a grout sealer. So I purchased the Grout Shield. (this is the item: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Miracle-S...-4-1/202518468)

After reading directions and reading online, this product does not get great reviews. Is this a good sealer to use, or is it best to use the type of sealer that you would apply over the grout when set?

In my experience that stuff is a pain. It makes the grout harder to work with and more difficult to clean up. It'll make the final product stain resistant but not exactly stain proof. If you want as close to stain proof as you can get then epoxy grout is the only real answer. As far as sealers go, I'd topically apply a high grade sealer like Aquamix Gold or Stonetech Bulletproof.

i guess with me not being too familiar with tiling and its products. I am kinda lost on what i really NEED. With this being an entry way, I guess I need some type of sealer right? Is a stain blocker really necessary?

Here is what I see on HD's site http://www.homedepot.com/s/Aquamix?NCNI-5

Obviously I want the best product to do the job without breaking the bank. I had it in my mind that you could lay the grout, then once set you come back over it and apply a sealer. THats in my mind. Not sure if its really that easy.......

I have no experience with that product, but Miracle Sealants makes some very good products. I noticed they have a "new & improved" version. Notice the packaging is different from the once at HD. http://miraclesealants.com/index.php...=31&Itemid=181

Epoxy is excellent, most people can do without it, it's harder to work with and $$$. A topical/traditional sealer such as 511 Impregnator or a high end AquaMix will do a decent job too. Apply 2-3 coats and redo now and then. Most people don't mind a slight change in color as the years go by. The secret is in proper cleaning.

Nah...... I think that's a poor sealer, plus why would I wanna apply it with that little tip. Also avoid the Tile Lab in the yellow container. Use Miracle Sealants or AquaMix or other well known brands. Good sealers cost $30-50 per qt., leave the cheap stuff on the shelf.

Yep 511 is excellent too. HD around here keeps it on the shelf in quarts.
