Backer board repair or replace?

Hello all first post here. I am trying to do my first DIY tiling project. I have the first piece of backer board down didn't have to cut it. The 2nd piece however I scored it and when I went to snap it it just ripped randomly down the line. Pictures as shown. Would I be able to repair this with fiber tape and thin set? or should I buy a new board and try again? Where its torn after laid down would be about center of the room.

thank you for the advice i will replace it. It's been a longer project started off pulling up laminate to practice putting tile down the found out the subfloor was rotting due to an undiscovered leak. had to pull the whole subfloor up and replace. been a large learning experience. thank you for the advice

I hear you. :) I am going through the exact same thing right now. I got the first layer of the sub nailed in place and hope to get the 23/32 layer nailed in place on Monday. Then I will be ready for the hardie.

When snapping Hardibacker---use the scorer pictured above---then place your knee on top of the score and pull UP---just the opposite of cutting drywall---

Be sure to set the rock into thinset before nailing---(like a giant tile)

I bought a backer board score man it made it so much easier. I am about ready to begin laying down the tile only I noticed my floor in one corner is uneven :( It's pretty bad. Should I use cement leveler or can I float it with thin set? Good luck Colbyt Hope your project goes well. I know I'm learning alot.

Can't tell where that slope is from the picture. A quality tile job needs flat more than absolute level. Of course if that slope sends water in the wrong direction it could cause future problems.

That is out a full bubble if I am seeing it right. Where is it low?
