Override Maytag Range Lock

For Maytag MGR7685AS, My wife and I bought this Maytag brand new directly from Whirlpool. We now have a little one climbing around and trying to climb up onto the stove. We have a lock on it for cleaning, and there is a control panel lockout, but there's no way for us to manually lock the oven door without going through a self cleaning cycle. Is there a button sequence we can do to manually lock the door?

So you want to make the range safe to climb on? Have you really given this any thought at all?

Re: Override Maytag Range Lock

Sounds like the OP thought of this a lot. They want to keep the oven door locked when not in use to keep the child from opening the door and climbing up on the open door. 1. From causing the oven from turning over on the child or 2. from getting hurt or burnt climbing up on the door while the burners are on. It happened to me when the kids were small I wasn't paying attention when watching them . When Mommy came home he was sitting on the oven door eating a cookie. We all know what happened after that . I got my ass chewed out and a lesson on baby sitting. Than GOD everything turned out well.

Re: Override Maytag Range Lock

I don't know about the manual lock. I looked for a moment but found nothing in the manual.

Do remember that the range gas valves can often be turned on, even without power. It's very easy for a child to turn the knobs, either by accident or on purpose. Fully child proofing your home is nearly impossible if you still want to still live there.

Cheers!

There are various oven door locks made to child proof them.
Just one example.

Re: Override Maytag Range Lock

Thank you for the replies. Obviously, my range isn't a playground, and I'm constantly watching my daughter. I don't want it to lock so she can climb up when she wants. I want it to lock so that 1/2 second I don't see what she's doing, she isn't climbing up there. The way I see it, since my stove doesn't have a handle for the lower drawer, child is sticking her toes between over door and drawer, and pulling herself up. With the right leverage, I fear her toe placement will be anything but enjoyable if the door were to open. I'd still be worried, but not as much if this particular drawer had an external handle, but that's not what I have.

I do have knob covers already on all the gas knobs, so I'm good there. I'm just trying to find a way to prevent the door from opening for the second or 2 I'm not looking if she starts climbing. Also, thanks for the suggestion on the amazon one. I'll take a look. As with all my other Maytag and whirlpool appliances, there's always a key sequence for some shortcuts not known to us standard folk. Just figured, since there is a lock on the door, that there would be a key sequence that could activate and de-activate that lock.
