Need help with dryer belt placement

I've done the searches and haven't found a thread that addresses this problem. Apparently I overloaded the tub in my dryer and that caused the belt to come loose from the dryer tub...the motor is trying to turn it, but it's not connected to the tub.

I have the top off the dryer...there's no way to access the area from top.

I have just enough room through a hole in the back of the dryer that I can feel the belt laying well away from the drum, but not enough room to maneuver my arm to get it back on.

Is it possible that this issue is resolved by laying the dryer over on it's front and working from "under" the dryer, which would be exposed once the dryer is lying on its front?

I've been grasping at straws...that's the last one I can find.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I live in a very remote area of SW Kansas and the nearest appliance store is about 100 miles away...

I'm about to have Sears come do a service call on it if I can't figure out how to get the belt remounted on the motor and drum...but DIY is sort of a lifestyle for me and I hate to admit "defeat", if you know what I mean!

Cheers from Dugly!

Need help with dryer belt placement

Donít know what kind of dryer it is but most have to have the front removed to install belt. There are a few that you remove front, place belt in general area and Finish install through a small panel
In back

Re: Need help with dryer belt placement

IIRC it is a Maytag...I'll check when I get home from work and post what I find out on this thread. I'm not sure the front will come off.

Cheers!

Re: Need help with dryer belt placement

Probably a couple of screws on the bottom or inside from the top, then tabs that the front slides onto to lock in place.

Model number will allow others to advise.

If you have to tip it over make sure you put a blanket/towels/cardboard on the floor to protect the finish/chrome/porcelain.

You might also want to unplug the unit and keep bandaids handy - lots of exposed wire connections and sharp spots.

Re: Need help with dryer belt placement

Thanks! I did find out about the sharp spots when I had my arm inside the body of the dryer, trying desperately to get the belt back on to the drum (never mind that I didn't have the slightest idea how to get the belt back on the pulley on the motor even if I were successful getting it back onto the drum).

I'll get more identification info (model/serial numbers, etc.) and will post again in early January...going out of town for a few days, looking for snow and gradient on the eastern slopes of the Rockies.

Cheers!

Here's a video showing how to replace the belt on a Maytag dryer.

Re: Need help with dryer belt placement

I'm half familiar with kenmore. If similar parts, you may want to replace the wheel that the belt goes around as well as the seal between the drum and the front. This is in addition to the belt but only if the dryer is old and these parts are worn out. Repairclinic.com also has the help videos and parts. Repairclinic, I think, is bit faster on delivery.

Re: Need help with dryer belt placement

It's been 30+ years but:
release and raise the top
remove the front and side panels as one unit
replace the belt and reverse the process

A search for how to for your specif brand will probable find a detailed video.

Re: Need help with dryer belt placement

YerDugliness,
The video Dave Sal posted should be everything you need. You'll hafta remove the top and front of the dryer to access the belt. You might even need to remove the drum so you can actually see the belt sprocket, otherwise you'll just hafta do it all by feel.

Once you get in there, it's pretty self-explanatory, there's not much inside. Just make sure the belt is laying flat all the way around the drum before putting everything back together.
