Maytag Washer Won't Start

Maytag Centennial Model MVWC300VW1, SN C02326563

Has round rotate/push dial for cycle select and start/stop. It won't start on any cycle. However, if I rotate to the rinse or spin portion and push the knob, it will run those portions.

Can it be anything other than need a new timer control assembly? I looked a little online -- those things not cheap -- I likely would sooner buy a new washer than put any significant money into fixing an old one.

I agree with you sps, sounds like the timer. I don't know of any way to hack a quick fix. perhaps someone else will know.

Re: Maytag Washer Won't Start

A timer for your washer can be sourced at RepairClinic.com for $114. The part number is, RepairClinic Item #1481442 | Whirlpool OEM Part #WPW10175557.

Skill level to replace is 2 out of 5 (with 5 being most difficult) and 15-30 minutes to complete.

Good luck

Re: Maytag Washer Won't Start

Just that a new timer is worth as much as the current value of the whole washer. So I pulled the timer, opened it up, took a file to clean up the contacts, put it all back together ---- works like a charm.

Re: Maytag Washer Won't Start

Nice job.

Just an FYI, $114 would have been a cheap fix.

I recently bought a new Maytag washer. This was a basic washer with a capacity of 4.7 cu ft. It set me back over $600 on sale.
