Kenmore washer pump check

My Kenmore Model 110 - 4423090, type 107 will not drain. I changed the lid switch to no avail.

I am now looking at the drain pump. It looks fine. Number is 3352492, which is identical to 3363394 apparently.

I have ordered in a new pump. It is only twenty dollars Canadian with no shipping charge.

But I cannot see any problem with the old pump. There are no clogs and it turns. I have also checked all of the hoses for clogs and have found none.

Is there some way I can verify the condition of the old pump? Could it apparently be functional but will give away under the pressure of the water and slip somehow? I only ask because I do not want to wait for two weeks for the new pump to arrive only to find it makes no difference to the operation of the washer.

The pile of dirty laundry is rising ominously

Did you check for power at the connections to the pump, you could have a control board problem.

This is a pretty old washing machine and has twentieth century controls on it. But I have not checked the electrical circuit out yet. Thanks for the directional tip.

Them it is just the controller instead of the board.

Question

Re: Kenmore washer pump check

I finally installed the new pump and the washer still will not drain. So I have changed the lid switch and the drain pump. That leaves the controller as the only culprit left standing---I think!

In my case the drain pump has no electrical connections and is a direct drive from the motor. It is very easy to take off and change out.

The controller is another kettle of fish. I haven't been able to figure out how to detach the controller from its mounting board yet and I don't want to break it finding out. The knob screws off easily but under that is a plastic grommet thingie that is not revealing its secrets to me.

I will see if I can get a picture uploaded.

Re: Kenmore washer pump check

So . .. is it even feasible that I could repair the controller? I am trying to get a good look at the schematic and can see that I could get the back off the controller by twisting the holding tabs.

I am probably wasting my time but it would be interesting to see what is causing the problem.

Sorry about the smily. Just couldn't resist that one.

Imo, unless you are a service tech or have the experience, skills, and testing equipment, I agree, you are wasting your time.

As you said, it would be nice to know for sure, as this is no doubt the most expensive part of the washer.

I tried googling that model number, nothing coming up for it. How old is it?

Go to sears parts direct website and ask there. See if they can help you out. Yes they are still in business. searspartsdirect.com

Often you can find a used controller on eBay as well.
