Hod do you remove range hood case?

The fan on the stovetop range hood is stuttering and making clocking noise (and also sparking I might add). I figure the motor is shot?

I want to check it out buit how the heck do I get in there? Does the front of the sheet metal cabinet come off? The label on the cabinet says Miele DA3190 but I can't find the installation manual.

That cover should come right off after you remove the Philip headed screws.

I did find the installation manual. You remove the unit by unscrewing some screws and the chimney and pulling it down through the hole. No info on fixing it except DO NOT attempt to fix it yourself, call authorized Miele repair service!
Do you think that is necessary?

Probably not necessary, but if you can't figure out how to pop the cover, maybe it's necessary for you?

Re: Hod do you remove range hood case?

First, go on line and download the manual. Then think about repairs.

You unplugged the wire, good. Remove the screws, remove the cover. Look inside with a good light. I think you have a cord that has a comprimised jacket. Carefully pull the extension cord and check for cuts in the cover of the cord. Look at the wire connection inside the box, check for cuts in the insulation. If there are cuts, you may need to go to the hardware store and get a plastic bushing to protect the wire. You may also need to get some wire nuts and splice the wires inside the box.

Ok, here's how it looks on the inside. It actually sounds quieter now than installed (?) But still scratchy. Plus I see there is a flasher type unit hanging loose, making marks on the back wall. I'll see if I can post a video.

That can is a capacitor for the motor. It should not be hanging loose. Put it back where it belongs or zip tie it to the chassis. Careful to not touch its bare ends, it stores electricity and will shock you even when disconnected from house circuit.

What is making the black marks on the wall behind it? Is this the source of the sparking I saw?
Is the video viewable? Does the fan look okay?

I can't open the video, but that thing looks like it has been loose and rubbing back and forth, it carries a pretty good charge and it the end touched metal it could give a pretty good spark when it unloads. And it has that charge even when the motor is not running. Like it has been suggested find a way to tie it up so it can't move and see if it will work now.

Re: Hod do you remove range hood case?

I found the plastic case for the capacitor, it was supposed to be hanging from the top of the cabinet. I'm thinking it fell down and was sparking and the black marks on the back of the case was caused by sparks being blown/sucked by the fan. Don't know why it was sparking though and why it won't just do it again when I put it back in place. Or if a bad capacitor could have been the cause of all the racket coming from the fan instead of a bad bearing or other motor issue..

I'll try again with a video.

Nope no video.
The black in the picture would just be from the cap moving back a forth and the aluminum rubs off like that. Once the the cap discharges it is safe to handle and it will charge up again, it gives the motor a boost to start and then recharges.

Re: Hod do you remove range hood case?

When i grab the fan on the right side and try to move it there is a small click or movement that the left side does not have. If I wanted to change or grease the bearing what would be involved. Turning the nut holding the wheel on just turns the wheel.

Ur last video you posted ( the one right above ^^^) is viewable. To me it sounds like a motor bearing or fan is not seated correctly/warped in the housing. Just my opinion.
