High Amp Clothes Dryer

Not sure it this should be in Appliances or in Electrical...

I inherited a Kenmore "Sears Best" clothes dryer. It is more than 30 years old and works well. I measured the current recently at 25A.

This seems high unless a dryer is classified as a non-continuous current device. Then I read the plate: 28A, 6,000 Watts! The dryer has never tripped a breaker.

Were clothes dryers designed to produce hotter temperatures 30+ years ago?

Re: High Amp Clothes Dryer

Clothes dryer standard circuits are 30 amp. With those numbers the breaker should not be tripping.
Unless your dryer runs non stop for 3 hours continuous, it is a non-continuous load.
